H.J. Bennett is a California-based artist. She finished her Art Studio Associate's Degree at Butte College in 2015, then transferred to Chico State in Spring of 2016. She graduated from Chico State in 2019 as Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor's degree in Studio Art.
In addition to learning about art, Bennett also advocates art and its use as therapy. In September of 2006, she had life-saving surgery on her spine. Only two days after she got home from the hospital, her father died in a tragic car crash. At this time, she was in desperate need of direction, joy, and meaning. Bennett was sick, bed-ridden, depressed, and starving herself. She found just what she needed in her pursuit of painting and the arts, when she moved to Chico six years later. Bennett started painting and never looked back. Art saved her and restored her passion for life in abundance. She is now a far happier person on average than ever before. It is the artist's firm belief that creating art is sharing a part of yourself, and it's an intimate thing that's immensely rewarding. Art can do amazing things for people, and Bennett wants to use her story and her art to help encourage others to pursue art as a means of therapy as well as an expression of the self. Additionally, H.J. Bennett is currently studying stop motion animation, dance, prop building, tattooing, and special effects makeup. If she wasn't busy enough, she has just finished a play ten years in the making called, "BLOOD AND BAGUETTES", which is now available in paperback or ebook format. Her first novel, "Franken-Fatale", was released in June of 2018. |
